I'm fairly convinced that animals will poo all over most plants.. but I am of the belief possums don't occur where many cacti grow Smile

I'm also sure that the rich untreated poo could be toxic in small pots? Though I am not sure on that.

Possums are a pain full stop anyways.

I think that decomposed organic matter is better than fresh in a cactus' case. But again... i'm no expert! Maybe you could bag it up and sell it for someone's rose garden!

Possum poo should'nt be a major problem, the only eat plant material and insects and the like so it's all pretty organic. I have even heard that possum poo is quite nutritious, have also heard it is edible No

Ewww!!! I used to have a dog that ate poosum poo regularly, it never effected him adversely.

I have possum problems where I am, I am suprised they don't try and eat your cacti, any cacti of mine that doesn't have decent spination has to be protected as they eat my cacti and disfigure them. Buggers!

A shotgun? No I would never hurt any animal intentionally. Over summer I had this young one that would keep me awake at night because it kept jumping from my roof to the roof on my greenhouse. This is where all my valuable cacti live, so naturally I was a little concerned. I'd wait up in the dark and when it jumped down I would quickly go out and squirt it in the face with a pressure sprayer, It soon learned that it wasn't welcome around my GH. Though it still had a go at a few of my cacti not in the GH. Nuisance possums. Hopefully when I move house there will be less lurking possums to deal with.

Yeah so squirt them with water. Also they hate human urine so I would make a little perimeter around my plants regularly, if you get my meaning lol and another thing they seem to dislike is blood and bone. I started adding small quantities of this to my Tricho mix and it keeps them at bay to some extent. Oh yeah and my Trichos LOVE it!

PostSubject: pissing must help   Thu May 01, 2008 8:57 pm

i've been pissing on my san pedro for years, and possums have never gone near it, i do have two dogs though, and a figoa tree thats fruiting at the moment, so the possums are more interested in them. is it true that cacti like to be pissed on? a reputable cactus guru told me that and i took his word for it. my pedro doesnt seem to mind, so i have started pissing on my montrose too, just as an experiment.

I wouldn't piss on the TBM, they aern't too keen on nutrients, not like regular Trichos, it will likely develop black spot/black death. Actually, I wouldn't piss on any cacti except a Tricho, lots of other cacti genera aern't so forgiving.

I will explain the benefits of pissing on Trichos, but in the future I would prefer any talk of alkaloid content etc. be discuss on the relevant ethnobotany forums as we don't condone too much ethnobotany talk here. This is strictly a cultivation/identification/trade/discussion forum.

OK so, human urine has a high % of Nitrogen as Urea, this is especially good for increasing alkaloids in Tricocereus sp. it also promotes strong above ground growth in general.

I am stating this as fact, I do not suggest that it carried out as the ingestion of Mescaline is very illegal and as I said we don't condone these practises here.

If I see more post/threads on alkaloids or alkaloid production or related topics, I will be forced to remove these posts.

Sorry if that seems harsh, that is just how things are on this forum.
