I know not everyone celebrates Halloween, but what better excuse can you have for showing off your monsters cyclops
I'll start with my favorite monster, my biggest Fred. Mammillaria bocasana crested monstrosa, which has won 1st place in the NSW cacti & succulent 2012 Fall and Spring shows.

Now's the time for everyone else to show off their monsters, no monster too big, no monster too small!
Let's see how many monstrose photos we can get here Very Happy

Got nothing as monstrose as that but I do have some funky plants going.

E. haku-jo, reverted and funny rib growth.

Finally some new growth on a gifted C. peruvians monstrose. Given to me last year in a sorry state, old cutting taken from the closed Arizona cacti Nursery. Tip in the first photo almost look like it wan't to crest

Thanks

As far as I know it isnt here as yet but there has been a few other interesting plants show up recently that were not here before. So at this point if it is here I would think it will be a while before it gets out and about.

That's an awesome FRED midlife, so I'll see your crested Gymno and raise you a
Blue Boobs Cactus (Myrtillocactus geometrizans cv FUKUROKURYUZINBOKU).

Snowfella, those are pretty great photos too. Thanks you both for posting them.

I'm liking the idea for this thread so here's a few of my monsters.
First, introducing Mr Ugly, My son named him.
A. furfurceusXscaphirostris.
I am propagating him....

Next a Copiapoa monstrose seedling with 'normal' crested heads

Half variegate Copiapoa crest

Lastly; in the abscence of a grinning Jack-o-lantern, I present my weird smiling Discocactus horstii variegate crest. HAPPY HALLOWEEN everyone!

Ha, those are awesome Crypto! Well done and thanks for adding to this thread. I hoped it would be a fun one for today.
WOW, Mr. Ugly really is ugly - did he get like that in a fight with another cactus, a car accident, or was he just born that way?

Here's a couple of scary cacti that are sitting in the cactus cube. By no stretch of imagination are they genuine monstrosa form cacti, they are just scary just because cacti shouldn't look like this Smile

Direct from the Cactus Cube, and the hands of the mad Dr. FrankenSpine, we have columnar Mamm theresa and Sulcorebutia rauschii.
We follow it up with his 8 headed Astrophytum ornatum var miribelli multigraft. Shocked

By the way, I think I will start an annual Halloween Monster post. We can even vote on the top couple of monsters both natural and man made. Maybe start the thread a week or so ahead of time to get it going, and close the voting at midnight on the 31st. What ya think?

I think I will set up a competition next year, everyone can vote, and I'll provide the winner with a nice prize, maybe a gift certificate for Hamilton's WOC or such.

Crypto there are some amazing beasts you have there.

IXOXI I have been going to have a go at doing one of those multi grafted pere's for a while now. Yours is the first Astro one that I have seen.
Are the other two elongated or have they grown that way.

Snowfella
Was the radioactive waste a ebay buy or do you have a direct suppler Razz I recon a lightning conductor would be just as safe so I might give that a bash affraid

The current size is 25 cm diameter. Fred becomes a large plant within several years.
