PostSubject: Mystery succulent - Please help id! :)   Thu Dec 20, 2012 9:00 pm

I just purchased a great looking succulent from Plants Plus in Kingsford, NSW. Unfortunately, it was only labelled as "Succulent". I was hoping that someone could please help me id it? To me, it looks like a Haworthia, but I'm not sure what species or variety it is. Would someone know what is? Thank you in advance.

Surprisingly, the potting mix looks very organic on the surface, but when I watered it, water flowed out of the drainage holes quite quickly & freely. I won't know what's in the potting mix until I transplant it, but I'll do this at a later date, after it has finished its flowering process, in case I disturb or interfere with it.

I was really happy to find this plant amongst the other nice plants there; fish hook cactus, gasteraloe, sedum, etc etc. It's a real beauty, as you can see. I love Haworthias, & have a couple already, but this one is now my favourite! Enjoy your plants! Smile

I have a H.venosa, or at least thats what I think it is. But its a great little plant, tough as nails and flowers all thru the warmer months.

@cactuscook: Thank you. It's great to be able to put a name to a face. Very Happy I did try to id it myself at Haworthia.info but to be honest, many of them look very similar to noob eyes like mine, lol. I just googled Haworthia venosa ssp tessellata & yes, my plant does look a lot like them. Although, the patterned windows on the upper surface of the leaves of my plant are a lot more creamy in colour than those in google images.

@Charlie: Thank you. I think it's a beaut plant. Love the contrasting leaves; cream patterned upper windows & bumpy dark green on lower surface. Great to know it's tough & flowers readily in summer. I like tough plants, a nice contrast to Lithops. Best! rendeer
