PostSubject: Mystery cactus - Please help id! :)   Sun Dec 23, 2012 5:17 pm

I recently purchased this little cactus from Bunnings. As you can see, it's not in its best form. Can someone please help me id it & tell me what I should do to ensure its resurrection? I've done some research & it appears to my novice eyes, that it may be a Copiapoa tenuissima, although I'm not certain of this. Thanks in advance for your help! Smile

Looks like you could be right, or possibly C. hypogea.
Doesn't look like it's in ill health though to me, just needs a repot into something deeper.

C. hypogaea.

Should be easy to save. It sets roots really easily.
I can't really tell by looking at the last photo whats going on with the roots but you should be able to root the whole plant and if you want you can just pull off some offsets and they should set root too.

Thank you both SnowFella & mitchell101 for your reply & help, I really appreciate it! Very Happy I was close but I think you two are closer with the id of C. hypogaea. For some reason, I did not find C. hypogaea in my google results when I was investigating its id, but now that you've mentioned it, I think that you might have hit bulls eye, & I agree that it looks a lot more like C. hypogaea than C. tenuissima. Thank you for the tip on saving it too. I was abit concerned because it looked very dehydrated & a bit soft to touch. I will repot it. Should I give it some water? Thank you & best wishes! Very Happy
