Morning folks!

Just wondering if trichocereus pachanoi are a thirsty cactus?
I watered mine a week ago and it plumped up and was nice and firm but now it's shriveled a bit, the ribs are super defined and it feels soft. I don't want to kill it with kindness but it seems thirsty?

Tricho's for the most part can handle a significant amount of water. According to a rather interesting book I have there is several wild populations of pachanoi growing in coastal ranges of the Peruvian coastline.

This is from memory. I can supply more accurate information about the location of the populations as well as total rainfall etc but will have to do a re-read.

Trichocereus are a water tolerant species. You generally want to just let you potting mix dry out between waterings, about once every two weeks depending on climate, potting mix, etc. Less in cooler months. It is normal for Trichocereus to suck in their bottom ribs in times of drought, this is nothing to worry about, it'll plump back up when watered. Hope this helps.
