Greetings folks!

So this morning I started doing my routine checks of my seedling trays and noticed that some ferocactus rectispinus had finally sprouted after nearly 2 weeks. Got a little bit excited as I was inspecting the 2 shoots that had appeared and then the most awful thing happened!
Butter fingers dropped the tray!
The soil got all mixed up and I lost sight of the seedlings bar one.
I was forced to oped the container (great contamination control there) and sift through the mix trying to find the poor little bashed seedlings, I located one and gently propped it back up.
I honestly have no idea if it will survive or any of the other 8 seeds in there stand a chance considering they could be under 5cm of soil!

Will be happy if I get 2 seedlings out of the ten seeds planted after the trauma I have put them through.

Needless to say there were quiet a few expletives shouted this morning.

Moral of the story - Be careful with the seedlings trays!!!

That sad, I had my new puppy knock over my seedlings doing the same under my benches, so I put up a temporary fence to keep him away and the next day I got flooded out but the fence collected a lot of my cacti that got washed off the benches. So I guess it was a good thing to have, even though I lost all my seedlings

That sucks Walker!!!

Its tough keeping and maintaining seedlings when they are most vulnerable.

I say with most things "you learn from your mistakes"

Sometime they are little mistakes and some are big!!

Good luck and hopefully you will get good germination!!

Thanks for the kind words.
Bit of an update - I have one lonely seedling standing strong and one that is nearly entirely upside down, I am tempted to open the tray and prop him back up but think I will just take my chances and see what happens.

JK- I have 3 dogs who have all well and truly learnt to stay away from my cacti, the big dog got a nasty surprise when she thought one looked tasty (she didn't end up hurt, think she just got a prickle in her nose) as for the seedling trays, a spray bottle set on jet works wonders for teaching them to leave the baby cactus alone.
Sorry to hear about you losing your seedlings, that must have been devastating.
