PostSubject: Few bargains   Tue Jun 17, 2014 6:29 pm

Picked up a few cacti today from someone selling them locally.
The white coloured one I am pretty sure is some type of mammillaria,  the red spines one I am not sure but at a guess would say some sort of parodia (correct me if I am wrong)
The tall one on the right I am guessing is some kind of opuntia (plan to use it as grafting stock)
And the other two on the left I am certain are hylocereus.
The prize catch though is the monster T.pachanoi it was growing in the persons garden and they offered it to me, at $10 I simply could not knock it back, I did have to dig it up myself but that was a very small price to pay!

The guy had quiet a few cacti, unfortunately all planted in garden soil in glazed pots!
I saw quiet a few casualties and a few that I know simply will not survive the winter.
Will be heading back later in the week, I really don't need anymore cacti but I am viewing my return as a rescue mission and not as a shopping trip.
(Yes I do realise I am making excuses to buy more cacti but I'm pretty pleased with the rescue mission justification, it's my best so far!)

I can totally sympathise. I purchased two pots with numerous agave each today, I could tell they were over crowded and not doing so well. Got them home and started seperating one pot and out of just one I got 16 plants! 16! I really don't want 30+ agave, so know I'm trying to find them new homes, but they just called to me and here I am lol!

The white ones look like Mam Fragilis.

Think you might be right sneaky, wondering if the fragilis part somehow references the word fragile. If you even bump this cactus it drops pieces like crazy. Perhaps it's just a coincidence.
