PostSubject: Seedling advice    Tue Jun 24, 2014 9:47 pm

Hey guys,
Just wondering when is a good time to take seedling covers off?
I have a bunch of seedlings that germinated in early march: lophs, astros and a few others. They are showing sighs of adult growth: wooly parts, spines, etc. I've run out of room in my heated area (new seedlings are living there now) and am not sure if they'll be ok being colder and in such a moist environment.
I planted my seeds too sparsely and chewed through my heated growing area.
My heated wardrobe idea will be getting started shortly hopefully ready within the next week or so. Do you think they'll be ok until then?
It's quiet sunny where they are (filtered sunlight, blinds partially open) my house temp ranges between 15-26 degrees depending whether I am home or not.

Regards,

Yeah they should be fine in those conditions. Seedlings don't like sudden changes to their growing environment, if you plan on taking the lid/cover off I suggest doing it slowly. I achieve this by placing small holes in the top of the container they are growing in, over time I make the holes larger.

Thanks for the reply HN, I'm really cautious to do anything to the them as they have been growing nicely for a few months now.
The seed I got from you has produced some really interesting seedlings so far and I would hate to do anything to jeopardise them.
I've read mixed opinions on Astro seedlings, some say better to remove the lid once they produce adult looking growth, others say to leave them like that for an extended time.
To be honest I am little confused as to which is the best for them.
I'll see if I can get some photos of them and post, might help in determine what is the best to do from here on.
There is absolutely no mould, algae or anything nasty going in the containers which is a bonus!

Yeah no bacteria is a good sign, for me that is a good indicator to leave the lid on Smile
