I was going to say Lobivia/Echinopsis but for some reason i just didnt think the flower fitted the Echinopsis species imo, well theyre not what im used to from an Echinopsis. Thanks Lewis.

well i'm pretty sure its a Lobivia. but to complicate matters along with its entire genus it is now an Echinopsis. so its a former member of the genus Lobivia Wink they usually have smaller brighter flowers than typical 'real' echinopsis. the flowers also usually open during the day unlike typical nocturnal flowering echinopsis, which have essentially big white/pink etc scented blooms.
'Lobivia' is an anagram of their country of origin, Bolivia. now there's a random fact for the day. Smile

I second Echinopsis syn. Lobivia. Ah nomenclature you love to hate it haha.

Nice red flowers MC, I am sucker for red flowers.

Yeah, this is the most popular thread on the forum so far. Unfortunately I will need to lock it down on December 1st because we can't have Summer flowers in a Spring flower thread. I don't want to run out of alotted server space.

So get your plants flowering guys and gals, under a month left.

lewis, that gymno opened yesterday. White petals with a maroon throat. It didn't fully open, today it should. I will post a pic or two.

MC, I like yellow too! Oh heck! I like all cacti flowers, they are just so perdy...flower

super kabuto.

Gymnocalycium gibbosum v. nigrum.
one of the best gymnos. grown in as bright a light as it will tolerate it is about as close to back as you can get. the massive white flower contrasts beautifully.

Nice gymnos lewis. That one of mine I was talking about opened a bit one day then hasn't opened again since then. These gymnos seem a bit shy. Though you don't seem to have any troubles getting nice blooms out of them.

im surprised, in your climate they should be even more enthusiastic than mine. they need lots of heat to get the flowers to open fully. Wink

Hi blowng, putting up pics here is a bit of a pain and I suggest you read through this thread: http://forum.auscactiforum.net/gallery-f21/new-gallery-t74.htm#352 ,for more info.

I am also not a member of any cacti society as of yet. It's pretty hard for me to get anywhere from where I currently live, so there isn't much point. When I move it will be more convenient, so I will join then.

Hope you figure out how to post pics. I look foward to seeing them Smile
