I'm yet to see one of the flower, make sure you get a pic if yours does Lewis.
Did you get this one from the show?

I know someone from the society who gets a lot of these so if there is anyone who is interested I would be happy to get some posted out your way.

Cool plant. Look forward to seeing it flower.

What kind of conditions are you keeping it in?

I'd like to get hold of one Kanje but I don't think Canberra is the place for epiphytic orchids without a greenhouse Smile

yes. i think this one needs a friend though, its rather outnumbered by cacti.

in my cactus greenhouse so conditions are reasonable humidity, but not too high like an orchid greenhouse and under shade cloth.i water it regularly in warm weather (now), but it doesn't need much water.

i think you'd be surprised. i've seen this plant growing surprisingly well in an exposed position in full sun where it was subjected to severe winter frost outside in Tasmania, so you should be fine. you don't need to grow it like a typical orchid. it needs relatively little water, as it obtains much of its moisture from the atmosphere. the fleshy leaves store water i.e. it is a succulent and dehydrate just like a cactus in times of drought. apparently as well as growing as an epiphyte (on trees) it sometimes grows as a lithophyte (on rocks) in dry exposed positions where even cacti would struggle to survive. its native to Queensland and New South Wales.

My plants are in bud at the moment. Very strange plant. not exactly showy, just interesting when you've seen everything else.

I can probably spare a few cuttings. pm me if interested.

Lewis, why do you call it dendrobium? I much prefer Dockrillia, and I thought dendrobium had been dropped as far as aus orchids are concerned.

I have had this plant for eight years. It has flowered very nicely only once in that time.
I thought it may have flowered this year in September as it looks very nice and healthy. But it didn't. *sigh*
