These are very nice photographs Blossfeldia, nice to see them.
I have not had much luck growing this from seed, I think the seeds must have been too old or something, one day I'd like to give it another try.
Your plant looks beautiful, how old, and how big is the clump?

Hello CP,
thank you.
Blossfeldia from seeds is very difficult. I have already tried many times and usually get problems with algae. The plant I bought 2 years ago. I guess her age but at least 30 years.

Is worth a try. A larger cut and shoot with Rhizopon.

Hot Tip for re-root is bird sand/bird grit (see Pic in German Cacti-Forum):

That is an awesome plant Blossfeldia! It must be ancient possibly from habitat.
They don't look like much but these Blossfeldias are two years old from seed. They must be one of the slowest growing plants in existence. Much slower than Strombocactus and a bit slower than the two Aztekium species in my experience. It took me many attempts to achieve growing conditions that suited this species and they are my pride and joy.The seedlings take nearly a year to reach 1mm and start out about .25mm even from fresh seed.

Beautiful plant Blossfeldia. Looks like a prized cactus for anyone's collection.
Does anyone know where these grow in habitat?

I've heard several growers in Australia claim that growing Blossfeldia on their own roots to be an impossibility. your Blossfeldia is trully incredible Blossfeldia. Smile
and cryptocarpa those seedlings really do look great.

Hello Lewis,
I have not yet heard. For many cactus nurseries but it is not economically viable because Blossfeldia so slow growing. A vendor sells but many species.

Just thought I'd update my pics for the Blossy fans - hope the thread starter doesn't mind. As Blossfeldia says, once they get past a certain point they seem to do well. It's been 8 months since the last photo's and there been significant growth, especially in the youngsters. Hoping for flowers or offsets on the bigger one next season as three of the areoles looked like they were going to do something this year...but didn't!

And the youngsters, I'm very happy with how they're coming on. You see a lot of the white powder coating on the Blossfeldias. At first I thought it mineral salts from watering, but I saw some grafted plants that were practically covered in the stuff, so I'm wondering if it's some sort of sunscreen ??
